ECHL: Icemen Lock In MacKinnon, Isaacson

Today the Jacksonville Icemen of the ECHL announced two more player signings for the 2023-24 season. Forwards Carson MacKinnon and Nick Isaacson will return to the Icemen roster, with both players agreeing to terms on one-year contracts.

24-year-old Nick Isaacson returns to the team after playing just two games with the Icemen last season. The Icemen acquired the 6’3” forward in January in a trade with the Maine Mariners, though he suffered a season-ending injury after joining the team. Isaacson played in three games with the Maine Mariners prior to the trade. Before joining the Mariners roster last season, Isaacson split the 2021-22 season between the University of Guelph and the South Carolina Stingrays while also spending a stint with the AHL’s Hershey Bears. Held scoreless in the 2022-23 season, Isaacson registered 14 points over the span of 35 games with the three teams he suited up for in 2021-22.

Carson MacKinnon rejoins the Icemen for the 2023-24 season after playing 11 games for the Icemen last year. The 6’1” 172-pound forward scored two goals during the 11 games he played in Jacksonville’s 2022-23 campaign. MacKinnon joined the Icemen during the 2022-23 season after completing his collegiate hockey career at the University of Prince Edward Island, where he played for three seasons. While with the University of Prince Edward Island, MacKinnon appeared in 47 games, collecting seven goals and 22 assists.

The list of roster returns continues to grow as the upcoming 2023-24 season approaches. Of the 15 names signed to return, 11 are returning players, including all four defensemen that have been signed thus far. With training camp just around the corner, the current roster sits at four defensemen, seven forwards, and one goaltender. It would be expected for the team to start looking to add more talent to the blueline and bolster the support for the crease as the forward core continues to take shape.

The Icemen season begins on October 21st.
