The Jacksonville Icemen have re-signed Garrett Van Wyhe for the 2024-25 season, which will be his second with the Icemen and third in his ECHL career. Prior to joining the Icemen, the 27-year-old spent his rookie season with the Adirondack Thunder but was on a contract with the Utica Comets, where he put up four goals and two assists for six points in 22 games with Adirondack before being dealt by the Comets to Bakersfield but ended up playing in 37 games with the Fort Wayne Komets putting up 10 goals and six assists for 16 points in 37 games, he would add one goal and assist for two points during the 2023 Kelly Cup Playoffs. Prior to going pro, he spent four years at the University of Michigan, where he put up 16 goals and 21 assists for 37 points in 135 games with the Wolverines.
The Seattle, Washington native is coming off a career year with the Icemen, where he put up 19 goals and 16 assists for 35 points in 70 games during the regular season. He would add one goal and one assist in seven games during the 2024 Kelly Cup Playoffs. This is a strong signing for the Icemen as Van Wyhe has shown that he can play either upfront or on the backend the Icemen, which makes him an even more of bigger piece for the team. Van Wyhe is the sixth signing for the Icemen and the second defenseman signed for the 2024-25 season.
