ECHL: Kansas City Mavericks Clinch First Spot in 2024 Kelly Cup Playoffs

Kansas City Mavericks/ECHL

The ECHL Kelly Cup Playoffs are a month and a half away, and today, on March 3rd, the Kansas City Mavericks clinched their spot in the Kelly Cup Playoffs for the second straight season as they defeated the Tulsa Oilers 7-4. Kansas City plays in the Mountain Division, which has a 31-point gap between the first and fourth-place teams, the most of any of the four conferences in the ECHL. It was a tough go for the Mavericks last year in the Kelly Cup Playoffs as they had a first-round exit as they lost in six games to the top-seeded and Brabham Cup Champion Idaho Steelheads, who would make it all the way to the Kelly Cup Championship, where they got swept by the Florida Everblades.

Kansas City currently sits in the top spot in the ECHL with a record of 40-10-3-1 for 84 points, with 18 games still remaining on their schedule. Now that the Mavericks have clinched a spot in the Kelly Cup Playoffs, 15 spots remain in the Kelly Cup Playoffs.
