ECHL: Norfolk Admirals Bolster Their Defense, Re-Sign Louis-Jean and King

Being one of the league-leaders in hits is no easy feat, but for Darick Louis-Jean, he’s looking forward to doing it all over again.

“You better come out to the Scope because we have something special for the fans to see this upcoming season,” said Louis-Jean.

Louis-Jean, a 22-year-old Quebec native, returns to Norfolk after an impressive season. He played in 54 games, achieving a career-high 15 points (2G, 13 A).

He began the season with the Quad City Storm (SPHL) and later joined the Savannah Ghost Pirates on loan before being claimed by the Admirals on November 23. In his debut game, he contributed two crucial assists in a thrilling 5-4 overtime victory against the Worcester Railers.

Known for his physical play, Louis-Jean ranked 14th in the ECHL for hits with an impressive 110.

“Bringing back one of the league leaders in hits was a main objective for us this off-season,” said Admirals head coach Jeff Carr. “As much as we want to see goals and action, Darick provided so much for us in the prevention of goals. He has a fearless style of play in the corners and in front of our net.”

The Norfolk Admirals also announced the re-signing of defenseman D.J. King.

“I can’t wait to play in front of all the great fans we have in Norfolk once again,” said King.

King was described by head coach Jeff Carr as a “massive shut-down defenseman” who helped solidify their penalty-killing unit last year. He also touched on King’s versatility, as his offensive side of the game could possibly open up an opportunity for King to play as an extra forward.

Despite battling through injuries last year, King played through them and made solid contributions to the team. His resilience is indicative of the season to come.

With the re-signing of these two defensemen, the Norfolk Admirals are primed for an exciting and competitive 2023-24 season. Fans can expect an electrifying display of skill and dedication as the team sets its sights on success for the upcoming year.
