ECHL North Division Finals – Game 3 Recap: Trois-Rivieres Lions vs Norfolk Admirals

On Thursday night, the North Division Finals shifted to Norfolk, Virginia. The two teams split the first two games in TR. Norfolk would make a change in net as they went with Domenic DiVicentiis. The 21-year-old goaltender also started Game 3 of the North Division Semifinals, making 29 saves in a win. In game 2 of the series, power plays played a big part, and that’s how it started, as Alex Beaucage would pick up his first goal of the series just over two minutes after the opening faceoff. Beaucage wasn’t done yet as he found the net again over five minutes later to give the Lions a 2-0 lead. The Lions also held the advantage in shots, 10-8.

The second period was one of the best defensive periods for the Norfolk Admirals in the series. Trois-Rivieres got a chance on a five-on-four on a PP. The Lions would once again struggle getting pucks on net in the second, managing just four shots. Norfolk would get the only PP of the period, but wouldn’t convert, and would get cheated out of a five-on-three after a high-stick for goaltender Domenic Divincentiis was missed. Trois-Rivieres headed to the third period with the lead for the third time this post-season as they won both of the previous games they had led heading into the third.

The Lions quickly put the game out of reach as Tyler Hylland found the back of the net less than three minutes in. Norfolk had a golden chance at the 6:33 mark as Ben Zloty had a breakaway at the 6:33 mark but would lose the puck off his stick. Anthony Beauregard made it 4-0 with a PP goal at 15:00, and that’s when things got ugly. Hank Crone took the penalty that led to the PP goal, and he would be given a 10-minute misconduct on his way out of the box. All chaos broke loose fifty-eight seconds later as Ryan Chyzowski was thrown into the boards. It would result in 64 PIMs and three players from each team hitting the showers early. Brady Fleurent would score a PP with 33.5 left to break Luke Cavallin’s shutout.
