ECHL: North Division Recap | Week 16

This divisional recap summarizes the North Division teams in the ECHL, focusing on their standings, recent game results, player milestones, and key statistics.

Trois-Rivieres Lions (28-7-4-1, 61pts, 1st Place)

The Trois-Rivieres Lions had a great week as they swept the three-game series vs Maine Mariners as they improved to 14-1-3-1 at Colisse Videotron, and extended their winning streak to six games. Anthony Beauregard extended his point streak to five games (4G, 3A), becoming the franchise leader in points (118). Trois-Rivieres will begin a three-game Southern road trip on Thursday against the Savannah Ghost Pirates before playing the Jacksonville Icemen on Friday and Saturday night.

Wheeling Nailers (28-12-2-0, 58pts, 2nd Place)

The Wheeling Nailers are starting to fall back down to Earth as they went 1-2 on the weekend, with their only win being an overtime win over the Cincinnati Cyclones. Matt Koopman has picked up the game-winning goal in each of the last three wins for Wheeling. The Nailers are one of three teams who have yet to lose after leading after 40 minutes of play (Idaho and Utah are the other two). Wheeling will head to Indy on Friday before hosting Reading on Saturday.

Matthew Buhrmann’s Friday Night Recap

Norfolk Admirals (26-14-3-0, 55pts, 3rd Place)

Despite suspensions and injuries, the Admirals would pick up four out of a possible six points. Thomas Milic, who was sent down from Manitoba, picked up his first win since January 20th, 2014. Filip Fornaa Svensson has five goals in his last three games for Norfolk. Brady Fleurent continues to lead the league with 34 assists on the year as he’s currently on a four-game point streak. The Admirals will head back on the road to play Reading on Tuesday morning and then head to Maine for games on Friday and Saturday.

Worcester Railers (18-19-2-4, 42pts, 4th Place)

The Worcester Railers were without their captain, Anthony Repaci, last week. However, for the Railers, it would be “No Repaci, No Problem” as they won both of their games. Matt Ustaski would score in his first game as a Railer as it would be his first goal since January 3rd, 2020, and followed it up with another goal on Saturday. Hugo Ollas has three wins as a Railer, with two of those coming against Adirondack. Worcester will host the Atlanta Gladiators on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.

Reading Royals (17-20-6-1, 41 points, 5th Place)

Reading would cool down last week as they saw their nine-game point streak come to an end on Sunday after they suffered an OT loss to Adirondack on Saturday before losing in regulation to the Thunder on Sunday as they are now 6-1-2-1 in their last ten games. On Saturday, Robbie Stucker would score his first goal since March 19th, 2023. Matt Miller is currently on a three-game goal streak. Maine Mariners (16-23-3-0, 6th Place, 35pts)

Once again, it was another busy week for Maine on and off the ice. The Mariners would make two trades: they acquired defenseman Ayden MacDonald from the Kalamazoo Wings and forward Robbie Baillargeon from the Allen Americans. It’s been a tough go of things for the Mariners, who would get swept on the road by Trois-Rivieres, who is 14-1-3-1 at home this season. Maine returned home on Sunday and suffered a loss to the Railers. One bright side for the Mariners has been Wyllum Deveaux, as he’s on a three-game point streak. Maine will host Norfolk on Friday and Saturday.

Adirondack Thunder (16-22-1-1, 34pts, 7th Place)

The Adirondack Thunder would finish off January with a 1-9-1 record but would have already doubled their win total in February after back-to-back wins vs Reading Royals as they improved to 4-0 this season at Santander Arena after dropping the first two games of the week vs Norfolk and Worcester. Kishaun Gervais, who made his Thunder debut last Wednesday, had two goals and four assists for six points in his last four games. It would be a week of firsts for the Thunder as Savva Smirnov and Gustav Muller picked up their first career ECHL points, and Colby Muise would get his first career ECHL win. Adirondack will now head out west to play the Tahoe Knight Monsters on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
