ECHL: Orlando’s Jimmy Mazza Suspended Two Games

The ECHL Department of Players Safety has announced that Jimmy Mazza has been suspended two games for his cross-check on Logan Drevitch in the final minute of a play in Orlando’s 3-2 win on Monday night; there was no penalty called on the play. This is Mazza’s first career suspension in his five-year career in which he has played in 177 games, putting up six goals and 23 assists for 29 points while spending time with the Reading Royals, Adirondack Thunder, and Orlando Solar Bears. The 29-year-old defenceman will miss Wednesday and Friday’s games vs the Jacksonville Icemen. With Mazza out of the lineup, expect Jake Stevens to make his season debut after being signed by the Solar Bears in the off-season; he spent last season with the Iowa Heartlanders, where he had one goal and seven assists after he finished his season at Long Island University, where he had four goals, and 13 assists for 17 points in 34 games.

This is the second straight time that a suspension has arisen from these two teams playing each other, as Savnnah’s Michael Bullion was suspended three games for an unpenalized kicking infraction that took place during the November 20th game between Savannah and Orlando; he is eligible to return on Thursday when the Ghost Pirates welcome the Trois-Rivieres Lions to town for their first ever visit to Enmarket Arena.
