ECHL: Reading Royals: Transactions

On Monday, January 29th, 2024, the Reading Royals announced that goaltender Brody Claeys and forward Steven Leonard have been signed to Standard Player Contracts. These are the first signings with Interim Head Coach Jason Binkley with the reigns in his hands.

Claeys made 3 appearances over the last 2 seasons for the Royals. In his time with Reading, he is 3-0-0, 1.60 GAA, and .882 Save Percentage. This record includes one shutout against the Maine Mariners making 31 saves and his second professional shutout. Hailing from Manitoba, Claeys has made one appearance in the ECHL with Norfolk Admirals. He has dressed for 12 games in the SPHL with the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs.

In his 4 year professional career, he posts a 25-25-6 record, 3.35 GAA, and .887 Save Percentage with 2 shutouts. In his ECHL career, he has a 12-10-1 record, with a 3.16 GAA and .889 Save Percentage. He has made stops in Reading, Worcester, Wheeling, Florida, Adirondack, and Norfolk.

Steven Leonard is the twin brother of Sean Leonard. He has started his fourth professional season in the SPHL with Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs. He has tallied 12 points (7 goals and 5 assists). He has 83 PIMS throughout 26 games in the SPHL this season. Leonard has 44 ECHL games under his belt and has registered 10 points, 147 PIMS with Norfolk Admirals in the 2021-2022 season, along with the Iowa Heartlanders in the 2022-2023 season.

Leonard has 56 points across the span of 143 professional games between the FPHL, SPHL, and ECHL. He played for NCAA Division 3 for UMass-Dartmouth, where he played in 106 games and recorded 38 goals with 54 assists. His twin brother, Sean, was signed to the Royals for five games this season. Sean recorded 16 PIMS and was traded to Jacksonville Icemen on January 24th, 2024.
