The Atlanta Gladiators announced today that they have acquired forward Randy Hernández from the Orlando Solar Bears in exchange for future considerations.
Freshly stepping into the professional arena in the ECHL, Hernández first made the leap to pro hockey after signing with the Fort Wayne Komets, then later landing with the Orlando Solar Bears after being traded earlier this month. The 25-year-old Hernández went professional after playing a combined 111 collegiate games at Robert Morris University and Canisius College, where he recorded a total of 72 points (29 goals, 43 assists). Before his collegiate journey, the Miami, Florida native spent two seasons with the Brooks Bandits. During his time there, he accumulated 120 points (52 goals, 68 assists) and celebrated winning the Alberta Junior Hockey League Championship in the 2018-19 season.
Randy Hernández had not participated in any games with the Orlando Solar Bears prior to being traded to the Atlanta Gladiators. However, Hernández has skated with current Gladiator Brenden Datema in the past. Both players were teammates for two seasons while attending Canisius College. During that time, both made significant contributions to the team with Hernández, known for his speed and offensive skills, scoring 16 goals and adding 29 assists over those two seasons. In the same period, Datema fired in two goals while also dishing out an impressive 17 assists. At the conclusion of the 2022-23 season, Canisius College was able to sustain a competitive advantage in the Atlantic Hockey Association, ultimately securing the AHA Championship.
On Saturday November 2nd, the Gladiators will face off against the Savannah Ghost Pirates in an away game scheduled for 7:00 PM. They will continue their road trip against the South Carolina Stingrays at 3:05 PM the following day.
