ECHL Roster Transactions: Atlanta Gladiators | 12/04/2024

The ECHL announced on December 3rd that Trevor Thurston, a Canadian defenseman known for his solid defensive skills and physical presence on the ice, has signed with the Atlanta Gladiators. Standing at 6’2″ and weighing 201 lbs, Thurston is a left shot who has built a diverse career across several leagues.

Thurston began his junior career in the Western Hockey League (WHL), playing for the Kamloops Blazers, Lethbridge Hurricanes, and Prince Albert Raiders. Over 107 games, he accumulated 27 points, demonstrating his solid defensive play and ability to contribute offensively. His time in the WHL laid a strong foundation for his professional career.

Transitioning to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), Thurston joined the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. During the 2022-23 season, he scored 21 points in 48 games, highlighting his offensive capabilities and further developing his all-around game.

Trevor Thurston played in the ECHL during the 2023-24 season. In the ECHL, Thurston played for the Reading Royals, Orlando Solar Bears, and Tulsa Oilers. During his time with the Royals, he participated in 12 games, netting one goal and providing an assist, while maintaining a +3 plus/minus rating and accruing 22 penalty minutes. His time with the Solar Bears was brief, featuring two games in which he collected four penalty minutes. With the Oilers, Thurston played 19 games, again recording one goal and an assist. He also competed in the 2024 Kelly Cup Playoffs, appearing in two games.

Most recently, Thurston played for the Birmingham Bulls in the SPHL. During the 2024-25 season, he has played nine games, scoring one goal and and an assist, with a +1 plus/minus rating and 10 penalty minutes. Thurston’s journey through these leagues highlights his adaptability and growth as a player. His solid defensive play and physical presence may make him a valuable asset to the Atlanta Gladiators.

In other ECHL transactions Tuesday, forward Dominiks Marcinkevics was placed on the 3-day injured list. Forward Connor Galloway was moved from the 3-day to the 14-day injured reserve.
