ECHL: Toledo Walleye’s Bednar named Goaltender of the Month for March

Toledo Walleye goaltender Jan Bednar has been named the Warrior Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Month for March. He had six wins, a 1.59 goals-against-average, and a .937 save percentage.

In his last 10 games, Bednar has five wins and a .915 save percentage to lift the Walleye to a playoff berth. This season, he has a record of 18-7-2 with a 2.74 GAA, and a .896 save percentage with three shutouts. The 107th pick of the Detroit Red Wings in the 2020 NHL Draft has developed nicely and has played to expectations.He has allowed tow goals or fewer in six of his last seven starts and had two shutouts in the month of March. Those shutouts came against the Iowa Heartlanders 3-0 on march 3rd and 3-0 against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits on March 16th.

Before turning pro, Bednar played in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) for the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, playinig 69 games with 38 wins. He turned pro with Toledo at the end of the 2023/24 season, appearing in three games. He is currently under contract with the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League (AHL) and could see action on the AHL sooner than later.

Bednar has teamed with John Lethemon to give Toledo an outstanding duo heading into the playoffs. The Walleye have a record of 43-14-4-5 for 91 points, sitting in second place in the Central Division but have already claimed a playoff spot.
