ECHL: Wheeling Nailers Re-Sign Randy Hernández

The Wheeling Nailers have announced that they’ve re-signed forward Randy Hernández for the 2025-26 season. Hernández is the sixth forward and seventh player signed by the Nailers for the 2025-26 season. In his rookie season with the Atlanta Gladiators, Hernández put up 11 goals and nine assists for 20 points in 65 games. Randy Hernández was dealt twice in October. He was traded by the Fort Wayne Komets to the Orlando Solar Bears on October 14th for cash, and then was traded by Orlando to Atlanta on October 31st for future considerations. Tyler Drevitch would head to Orlando to complete the Hernádez trade.

Prior to going pro, Hernández spent two seasons in the AJHL with the Brooks Bandits. He would put up 52 goals and 68 assists for 120 points in 86 games. During the 2019-20 season, he led the Bandits in goals (42) and points(95). The Miami, Florida, native would play four years of NCAA hockey. He spent his first year with Robert Morris University, where he had 11 goals and 14 assists for 25 points in 24 games. Hernádez would be named the AHA Rookie of the Year and be named to the Second All-Conference team in 2021. He led the team in goals (11) during the 2020-21 season. The final three years of his NCAA career would be spent at Canisius College. In 87 games with the Golden Griffins, he put up 18 goals and 29 assists for 47 points. The Golden Griffins would win the AHA Championship in 2023.

Last season, Hernández served as an assistant coach for Team Cuba at the Amerigol LATAM Cup. He was joined by former Nailer Scooter Vaughn, who played with Wheeling during the 2011-12 season.
