ECHL: Wheeling Nailers Sign Goaltender to Amateur Tryout Contract | 04/18/2024

The Wheeling Nailers signed University of North Dakota goaltender Ludvig Persson to an amateur tryout contract, and he has been added to the playoff roster. During his time with the Fighting Hawks, Persson played in 34 games. The Goteborg, SWE native, went 21-11-2, posting a 2.52 GAA and a .904 SV% with five shutouts.

Prior to starting his college career, Persson played in the North American Hockey League for the Lone Star Brahmas. He played 28 games, going 22-4-0 while maintaining incredible numbers. Ludvig carried a 1.56 GAA and a .932 SV% with seven shutouts. These numbers gave him the opportunity to commit to the University of Miami, Ohio, and he did. In his freshman year, he played 18 games, going 5-11-2 with a 2.62 GAA and a .925 SV% with two shutouts for a struggling organization. His sophomore and junior seasons saw him get even more playing time. He would appear in 64 games with a 14-42-6 record with three shutouts in those two seasons. Persson transferred to UND for his senior year.

In the 2020-21 season at the University of Miami, Ohio, Persson was named to the NCAA (NCHC) All-Rookie Team and NCAA (NCHC) Second All-Star Team and named one of the NCAA (NCHC) Three Stars Award recipients. The 2023-24 season at UND saw Persson win the NCHC regular season championship, be named to the NCHC Second All-Star Team, and be a nominee for the Hobey Baker, which is awarded to the NCAAs’ top collegiate player.
