On December 18, 2024, the Wheeling Nailers, an ECHL affiliate of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and Pittsburgh Penguins, announced the following transactions:

Goaltender Luke Richardson was activated off of a 14-day IR and was traded to the Allen Americans. This trade was completed in return for future considerations. Richardson started in one game for the Wheeling Nailers and earned the victory by stopping 19 out of 20 shots. Richardson dressed for 12 games for the Greenville Swamp Rabbits in the 2023-2024 season and completed the season with a 7-1-1 record and a 0.931 save percentage. Richardson participated in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins AHL training camp at the start of the 2024-2025 season.

Forward Nick Hutchinson was suspended by the Nailers. This often means that the player has elected to play overseas. Hutchinson was this season’s Captain for the Nailers. He played in nine games and tallied one goal and three assists in those nine games. Last season, Hutchinson played for the Västerås IK and AIK in the HockeyAllsvenskan, a Swedish Hockey League. He dressed in 30 games between the two teams and tallied 13 goals with five assists.
