The Trois-Rivières Lions have had a rough Tuesday, as they’ve lost two players before noon. Earlier this morning, Chris Jandric signed in Germany, and now Xavier Cormier is heading overseas to Slovakia to join HK 32 Liptovsky Mikulas. In 68 games this season, the 24-year-old center had a career year, putting up 18 goals and 42 assists for 60 points, and would lead the Lions with 130PIMs. He would add two goals and 17 assists for 19 points in 21 games during the Kelly Cup Playoffs. He would have at least one point in nine of the last ten Kelly Cup Playoff games. Xavier also got the opportunity to play alongside his brother Tommy Cormier this season in Trois-Rivières. Xavier Cormier is the fourth member of the Lions to head overseas this offseason.

During his three seasons in the ECHL, the Point-Rouge, Quebec native spent time with the Florida Everblades, Fort Wayne Komets, and Trois-Rivières Lions. He’s put up 40 goals and 93 assists for 133 points in 181 games. Cormier did see five games of AHL experience with the Charlotte Checkers during his rookie season. Prior to going pro, he spent parts of five seasons in the QMJHL with the Quebec Remparts, Shawinigan Cataractes, and Rimouski Oceanic. He would put up 59 goals and 88 assists for 147 points in 203 games. Cormier had three goals and eight assists for 11 points in 18 career QMJHL playoff games. In his final season in the Q with the Oceanic, Cormier led the team in goals (29), assists (39), and points (68).
