‘Go show them what Edmonton’s got’

Kevin Neufeld - Inside the Rink

With game one of the Stanley Cup Finals in the books, and a less than lackluster performance from the Edmonton Oilers, going 0/3 on the power play, getting outscored 3-0 despite outshooting the Florida Panthers 32-18, and giving the puck away 14 times, the Oilers find themselves in a dark place after the first game.

Pre-series, the Oilers tweeted this video with the caption “Go show them what Edmonton’s got” – the overarching message from parents, spouses, and children alike.

The video opens with a message from Leon Draisaitl’s family in his native German language, followed by Sam Gagner’s wife Rachel, Matias Ekholm’s wife and kids, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins father, Darnell Nurse’s parents, as well as Connor McDavid’s mom and dad with scenes from Gagner’s kids in the locker room, shots of each of the players mentioned on the ice.

Inspirational messages such as “For our family, our friends, and for me, you are already the champ. And remember that this is what you’ve always dreamed of and what you’ve fought for all your life” from Draisaitl’s mom, “We hope that you win this. Go for it!” from Ekholm’s kid and “Enjoy this. Remember all those times everyone thought you’d give up, but you never did” from Gagner’s wife.

The video closes with a “Let’s Go Oilers” chant and the final line of “Good luck to all of you – Go show them what Edmonton’s got”.

Game two of the Stanley Cup Finals is on Monday at 8:00 PM EST on ESPN.
