Golden Graveyard Gossip Part 2: Golden Ghosts vs Stingrays

Golden Ghostly Greatness

Last night was the second night in the Savannah Ghost Pirates’ Golden Ghosts weekend. After losing Thursday night to the Swamp Rabbits, they faced the Stingrays last night and won after an incredibly well-fought game. Their last game in the series is tonight, in which they will face the Orlando Solar Bears.

Fantastic First Period:

The first period was quite eventful. Starting out with a five-on-three advantage for Savannah, they had a lot of offensive opportunities. However, it was not until 6:27 into the game that the Golden Ghosts were able to strike first with an unassisted goal from Anthony Collins. Roughly three minutes later, the team found the back of the net with another unassisted goal, this time from Vincent Marleau. Nothing else changed in the game until Brent Pederson scored a buzzer-beater goal with the help of Logan Drevitch as the first period ended.

Scoreless Second Period:

Neither team scored during the middle period, even though South Carolina was given two power plays.

Terrific Third Period:

The Stingrays finally got on the board early into the third period with two goals. The first was scored by Austin Magera off of Jack Adams and Kevin O’Neil. The second was made by Kevin O’Neil, assisted by Jack Adams. Just as they were getting close enough to tie the score, Michael Bullion made sure that would not happen with an incredible save. Another thing that helped ensure the Golden Ghosts’ victory was arguably one of the best goals in SGP history. Ryan Scarfo, who used to play for the Stingrays, scored an insurance goal on an unassisted breakaway while on a penalty kill and on a wide-open empty net. This last period consisted of three Savannah penalties and one from South Carolina. Anthony Collins and Garet Hunt both got two of those penalties for fighting one another. After Collins took Hunt to the ice, he got up and hyped up the crowd as he traveled to the penalty box.

Three Stars:

  1. Anthony Collins (SAV)
  2. Kevin O’Neil (SC)
  3. Brent Pederson (SAV)

The Golden Ghosts will wrap up this weekend’s series tonight against the Solar Bears.
