Greer Will Have Hearing for Cross-Checking Major

NESN

During last night’s Bruins vs. Canadiens game, the rivalry was showing its colors. The game got scrappy early. As the tensions rose late in the first period, Aj Greer and Mike Hoffman were involved in shenanigans at the faceoff dot. After some jousting of the sticks and what looks like a slash to the hands of Greer, he retaliated with a misplaced cross-check directly to the chin of Hoffman.

Immediately after contact, Greer knew the jig was up. The call on the ice was a 5-minute major; after the officials reviewed the play, they confirmed the major and also assessed a game misconduct. There is no doubt that this was a bonehead play, and there will likely be a one game suspension coming his way.

With an expected suspension, on top of injuries to Hall and Foligno, the Bruins will be looking at their AHL depth to plug the short-term gap. The Bruins are headed into a weekend of back-to-back games against the Tampa Bay Lightning and Carolina Hurricanes, two teams that will help the Bruins prepare for playoff intensity.

Opinion: Stars’ Mikko Rantanen Returns to Form At the Right Time

It was clear that Mikko Rantanen was not exactly about being traded by the Colorado Avalanche, the only NHL club he had ever known. It was in Colorado where he spent close to 11 seasons, won a Stanley Cup in 2022, had 681 points (287 goals and 394 assists), and made lifelong friends. That is […]

Edmonton Oilers Playoff Thoughts: Round 2, Game 2

It takes four wins to advance, but the Edmonton Oilers historically lose almost every Game 1. In their last 15 rounds, including Tuesday night, they’ve won only four series openers. Even in 2006, they only won one Game 1. If you include that Playoff run, just for laughs, the record is 5 Game 1 wins […]
