The Carolina Hurricanes find themselves in a very interesting goaltending situation. There are only a few games left before Christmas break, and they have one goalie with the team who’s played NHL games.

Pyotr Kochetkov has seized the Hurricanes net. He’s outperformed Antti Raanta – who just cleared waivers yesterday and will report to the Chicago Wolves. Kochetkov has only allowed one goal in each of his last three games and is primed to run away with the starter role.

Frederik Andersen is set to hit the ice more in the next week or so in order to get back into game shape. He has only played six games this season and has been sorely missed.

The Hurricanes recalled goalie Yaniv Perets of the Norfolk Admirals on Sunday. Barring a trade, this was the expected counter-move to placing Raanta on waivers. In 11 ECHL games, he has a 2.38 goals against average (GAA) to accompany a .916 save percentage (SV%).

Now, this morning, the Hurricanes appear to be making another move. According to Elliotte Friedman, they have agreed to a free agent tryout with goaltender Aaron Dell. Dell most recently played four games last season with the San Jose Sharks. In those appearances, he collected a 2.71 GAA and a .913 SV%.

Regardless of what happens moving forward, it will be interesting to monitor the present state of the Hurricanes net. The Hurricane’s next game is on Tuesday against the Vegas Golden Knights.
