Jasper Weatherby Signs PTO With Edmonton Oilers

Robert Edwards-USA TODAY Sports

Another day, another PTO.

On Thursday morning, the Edmonton Oilers signed forward Jasper Weatherby to a professional tryout.

The 26-year-old center was a 4th-round draft pick of the San Jose Sharks. He played 50 NHL games for them in the 2021/2022 season and put up 11 points. In 161 AHL games, he has 57 points. Oilers commentators on Twitter stated that prospect Roby Jarventie, who Edmonton acquired in a trade with the Ottawa Senators earlier this summer, will miss training camp with a knee injury. He signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Nashville Predators last Summer but didn’t end up playing for them. Unlike the PTO for Mike Hoffman, who is a proven NHL player, this one probably just needs to fill AHL bodies. Speaking of bodies, Weatherby does have good NHL size; 6’4”, 222 lbs. It’s not impossible that he challenges for the 13th forward spot or for occasional call-ups if he has a decent showing.

Do you like this PTO? Do you not? Let me know.
