Previous Game Recap & Statistics

The Winnipeg Jets defeated the St. Louis Blues 5-2 at Enterprise Center on Tuesday, November 7. Mark Scheifele would capitalize around the halfway mark on the power play after the Jets had many chances prior to the goal. This goal put the Jets up by one, but it wasn’t a momentum shifter in the game.

However, Neal Pionk’s goal put the Jets up 2-0, which was the best part of the Jets night. Pionk’s best friend and a groomsman at his wedding, Adam Johnson, tragically passed away after a freak incident that shook the hockey world. Pionk finally scored his first of the season, and after just getting back from Johnson’s funeral, it was fitting that Pionk scored the day after his close friend’s funeral. Pionk was seen on the bench after the goal, holding back emotions while his teammates gathered the puck and gave him a pat on the back.

Robert Thomas scored 40 seconds after Pionk’s goal, but the Jets would close the period up 2-1 and keep momentum in their favor. After a second power play for the Winnipeg Jets, Kyle Connor would take his turn and give the Jets their second power-play goal. Connor’s first goal of the game gave the Jets what they needed for the remainder of the game.

Connor would open the third period, scoring his second and final goal of the game. Brayden Schenn would answer not too long later, but the Winnipeg Jets and goaltender Connor Hellebuyck showed that it wasn’t enough for the Blues to get back into the game. Cole Perfetti would score his second goal of the season as he found the Blues empty net, sealing the Jets 5-2 victory.

Key Things To Look For In Tonight’s Game

The Winnipeg Jets have a lot going in their favor right now. Everyone is starting to heat up and produce, which is a good thing for interim head coach Scott Arniel. Likely, he won’t change much, but if he does, you must look for these key things ahead of tonight’s matchup.

Ehlers is still too quiet. This is something that should be concerning opposing teams. All it takes is something to connect, either for Nikolaj Ehlers or his linemates. Ehlers is currently a -5 and has been invisible on the ice in the last few games, and a game against Nashville might change that.

Hellebuyck’s down numbers won’t last long. Another thing that should concern opponents. Hellebuyck is sitting below a 0.900 save percentage currently. Once Hellebuyck gets back into his Vezina conversation routine, he can be lights out a lot of the time. With the defense in front of him looking more stable with each passing game, Hellebuyck will soon have a great performance that should give Brossoit more confidence in the crease.

Perfetti is starting to heat up. Perfetti’s empty net goal against St. Louis might give him an extra confidence boost that can lead to a great stretch of games for him. Perfetti and Ehlers have been an incredible duo, and having Vladislav Namestnikov at their center has been a great second line created by Rick Bowness. Once this line starts to produce, it will become a matter of if and not when they become the conversation for the Jets, just like their third line currently.
