The Winnipeg Jets and defenseman Dylan Samberg have agreed to terms on a two-year contract carrying an average annual value of $1.4 million per season. Samberg, 24, was selected in the second round at 43rd overall in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft by the Winnipeg Jets. Samberg wouldn’t sign his entry-level contract until the 2020-21 season, where he signed a three-year entry-level contract worth $925,000 annually.
Samberg would spend the 2020-21 season with the Manitoba Moose, where he posted one goal and six assists for seven points in 32 games. Samberg’s plus/minus was a plus four, and he had 15 penalty minutes that season. This showing, alongside Samberg’s 32 games with the Moose during the 2021-22 season, where he posted 12 assists and points, would earn him an opportunity at the NHL level. Samberg was also a plus-10 and had 26 penalty minutes in his final season with the Moose.
Dylan Samberg played 15 games with the Winnipeg Jets during the 2021-22 season, where he posted five assists and points, a plus/minus of plus-three, and four penalty minutes. Things were looking great for the Winnipeg Jets defenseman.
In the 2022-23 season, Dylan Samberg earned himself a full-time role with the Winnipeg Jets roster, where he posted two goals and six assists for eight points in 63 games. Samberg was also a plus/minus of plus-10 and posted 25 penalty minutes. Dylan Samberg would go play for Team USA in the 2023 World Championship tournament, where he posted one goal and three assists for four points in ten games. Samberg was a plus/minus of plus-10 in that tournament.
The Winnipeg Jets signing Dylan Samberg to a two-year contract avoids salary arbitration for this year and gives the 24-year-old defenseman more potential for opportunity in the 2023-24 season. Dylan Samberg will be a restricted free agent with arbitration rights when his contract expires at the end of the 2024-25 season.
