The Ottawa Senators announced today that former Isles alternate captain Josh Bailey had agreed to terms with the team on a professional tryout.

Bailey was a 2008 New York Islanders draft pick and spent the last 15 seasons on the Island.

This past offseason, the Islanders moved Bailey to the Chicago Blackhawks in a cap crunch move. The Blackhawks simultaneously bought out the remaining season on the 33-year-old winger’s contract, making him an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.

Bailey went unsigned and will join the Ottawa Senators next week on a PTO.

Ottawa Senators’ current head coach, DJ Smith, was Josh’s assistant coach in the OHL when Bailey was a teen. Ottawa’s current assistant coach, Jack Capuano, was Bailey’s head coach with the Islanders for seven seasons in the 2000s.

The connections were there in the Canadian capital for Bailey.

It is anyone’s guess whether Josh will make the Sens or not.
