Katie Burt Signs With Metropolitan Riveters

The Metropolitan Riveters made a splash on Thursday Afternoon as they announced the signing of goaltender Katie Burt. In the team’s press release, Burt said, “The Riveters have always been a tough team to play against said Burt “They work hard, and, in my experience, when you played against the Riveters, you knew it was going to be a battle. That work ethic is something that really drew me to signing with the Riveters”. The news of the Burt signing also comes with the news that Rachel McQuigge will be missing time with a lower-body injury. A timeline for her return is unknown. McQuigge was 1-3 with a 3.54 GAA and .891 save percentage before her injury. Head Coach Venla Hovi said this about the signing “It is important to have two strong goalies who are able to play.” “Burt is a competitor and also has recently been part of a winning team. She plays with confidence, is technically sound, and we’re really excited to add her into our organization”.

How Does This Effect The Rivs?

With McQuigge out of the line-up, the Riveters will roll with Eveliina Makinen and Kate Burt for the foreseeable future. Makinen, who signed with the Riveters this offseason, has a 1-2 record with a 3.04 GAA and .894 save percentage in three starts this season. Burt comes to the Rivs after spending last season with the Boston Pride playing in 11 games while putting up a record of 7-4 with a 1.41 GAA and .958 save percentage, along with three shutouts which would be top in the PH. She would win all three PHF playoff games to lead the Pride to their third Isobel Cup. Moving forward, I expect the Rivs to split time between the two netminders unless one of them gets smoking hot at some point in the season. The Rivs are on the road this weekend for two games vs. Toronto Six starting Saturday at 2 pm.
