Joonas Korpisalo and the Ottawa Senators have agreed on a five-year contract worth $4 million annually. The Ottawa Senators have been steady in the market for a goaltender, and this signing came as no surprise. Korpisalo was drafted 62nd overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Korpisalo would then spend eight seasons in Columbus and split that eighth season after being traded at the 2023 NHL Trade Deadline to the Los Angeles Kings alongside teammate Vladislav Gavrikov. Gavrikov was signed by Los Angeles, and Korpisalo would hit the free agency market.

In Korpisalo’s split 2022-23 season, he would play 28 games for Columbus and 11 games for Los Angeles. In his Columbus games, he posted a 3.17 goals-against average and a 0.913 save percentage. In his Los Angeles stint, he posted a 2.13 goals-against average and a 0.921 save percentage. Korpisalo’s strong play netted him a five-year deal with the Ottawa Senators, where he can become their long-needed starting goaltender.
