The Montreal Canadiens announced that winger Joel Armia and defenceman Gustav Lindstrom have been placed on waivers. Armia is the more surprising name that was put on waivers, seeing that he spent six seasons with the Habs playing in 259 games, putting up 49 goals and 46 assists for 95 points. The Finnish winger has spent ten seasons in the NHL, seeing time with the Buffalo Sabres and Winnipeg Jets before joining the Habs however, Armia has struggled with injuries over the last few seasons, and with Montreal having a ton of youth talent, the option to waive Armia opens up a spot for another prospect to join their roster. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see a team take a chance on Armia as a veteran winger who would fit well as a third or fourth-line winger.
Montreal has a ton of young defencemen, which now includes Lindstrom, who was placed on waivers today. However, if he clears, he’d be a solid option for Laval and would give him an opportunity to get some playing time. Lindstrom was acquired earlier this summer by the Habs in the trade, which sent Jeff Petry to the Detroit Red Wings; in 128 games with Detroit, he put up two goals and 23 assists for 25 points. Montreal is also dealing with Chris Wideman being out indefinitely, which opens up a spot on the blueline, regardless, Lindstrom would be a solid piece to an already strong Laval team if he’s able to clear waivers.
