New Jersey Devils Call Up Tyler Brennan

Sarah Pietrowski/InsideTheRink

The New Jersey Devils have announced that they’ve called up goaltender Tyler Brennan from the Utica Comets, Brennan was called up to Utica from the Adirondack Thunder (ECHL) before being sent to Jersey. In 22 games this season, Brennan has put up a 6-14-2 record with a 3.68 GAA and .870SV%. Brennna is in the second year of his three year, entry-level deal with the Devils.

However, despite the call-up, it isn’t expected to last long for Brennan, as he’s the only “available” goalie who is on an NHL deal. The Devils, who are already without Jacob Markstrom as he was placed on IR earlier today, are also without Nico Daws, who is currently sick. Utica is in action tomorrow night against the Belleville Senators. Isaac Poulter will likely get his third straight start for the Comets, with Jeremy Brodeur serving as his back-up. This is a good opportunity for Brennan to get some reps at the NHL level and hopefully find his game, as it’s been a rough year for the former fourth-round pick of the Devils. Despite the struggles this season, one important thing to remember is that Brennan is coming off an injury-shortened rookie year where he played in just 13 games, putting up a 5-5 record with a 3.16 GAA, .896SV%, and one shutout.

The Thunder begin a season-long eight-game road-trip on Friday Night in Trois-Rivieres and I expect Brennan to be back with the team by then. If Brennan is still up with the Devils, expect Adirondack to go out and sign a goaltender to help share the duties with Colby Muise.
