New Jersey Devils Extend Head Coach Lindy Ruff

The New Jersey Devils announced that they have extended head coach Lindy Ruff to a multi-year contract; terms and financials of the deal were not disclosed. Over the course of the Summer, there were a lot of rumors about the Devils planning to extend Ruff, who’s been behind the Devils bench since the 2020-21 season and has a record of 98-98-24 as the Devils coach. Ruff was nominated for the Jack Adams Trophy last season for the third time in their career and was the second head coach in Devil’s History to be nominated for the award, the first being Jacques Lemaire in 1994.

“I’m thrilled to commit here to this situation and couldn’t be prouder of the great progress that our group made last season,” said Ruff. “We have a special group in Jersey and there’s an opportunity to accomplish long-term success, make a lot of positive memories and give our fans a lot to cheer about – because our Devils’ fan base is one of the best in the League and they deserve to see a winner.”

New Jersey Devils Press Release

New Jersey had a franchise-best season last year under Ruff, going 52-22-8 and finishing second in the Metro, and would take down the New York Rangers in the opening round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs before being eliminated by the Carolina Hurricanes in five games. There is no question that Ruff is the right man for the job, as the Devils have been one of the most talked about teams over the past two years and are one of the favorites in the East heading into the 2023-24 season.
