News: New York Islanders hire Lane Lambert to be next Head Coach

A week after the surprising firing of Barry Trotz the New York Islanders and GM Lou Lamoriello have announced their next head coach.

Lane Lambert has been an assistant coach on the Islanders staff since Trotz was hired in 2018 and started his career with Trotz in 2011 in Nashville and followed each other to Washington and to Long Island.

Lambert was the head coach of the Milwaukee Admirals in the American Hockey League for four seasons where he had a 178-110-39 record at the AHL level before being promoted to an assistant on the NHL staff.

It’s likely Lambert would have been interviewed for open head coaching jobs in the NHL, he was a finalist for the Anaheim Ducks job in 2019.

Lamoriello said in his press conference after firing Trotz that the team needed a new voice and clearly Lambert fits his criteria and will likely keep some of the structure and style from the Trotz system but with his own twist.

There will be a conference call later today with both Lambert and Lamoriello
