Anaheim Ducks Notes:

The Ducks are one of the final two teams (Washington Capitals are the other) to begin the 2024-25 season. Anaheim was 8-17-1 within the Pacific Division last season. Anaheim will rely on promising young forwards Leo Carlsson and Cutter Gauthier. Carlsson led the Ducks in preseason scoring, and Gauthier is a potential Calder Trophy candidate.

San Jose Sharks Notes:

The Sharks are celebrating Hispanic Heritage with Los Tiburones night. The Sharks lost their opener in overtime to the St. Louis Blues 5-4. Despite the loss, there were plenty of things to feel good about as a Sharks fan. Macklin Celebrini, the No. 1 overall pick in the NHL draft made an immediate impact with a goal and an assist in his debut. Celebrini became the youngest player to record 2 points in the first period of his first game. Celebrini was placed on IR with a lower-body injury after being evaluated. New addition Tyler Toffoli also shined in his first game as a San Jose Shark with a goal and an assist.

Anaheim Ducks Lineup:

Gauthier-Carlsson-Killorn
Fabbri-McTavish-Zegras
Vatrano-Strome-Terry
McGinn-Lundestrom-Leason

Players To Watch:

Anaheim – Lukas Dostal will begin the season as the No. 1 goalie as starter John Gibson is sidelined after an emergency appendectomy. Dostal had an encouraging preseason, and his performance early in the season will be critical to the Ducks’ success.

San Jose – Tyler Toffoli with 2 points in his Sharks debut. The veteran winger will be relied upon to mentor the young forwards and bolster a San Jose offense that struggled a year ago.
