Montreal Canadiens Notes:

The Canadiens have the second-youngest team in the NHL and three first-year rookies. On Wednesday night, Montreal began their season with a 1-0 shutout over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Cole Caufield scored the lone goal.

Boston Bruins Notes:

The Bruins lost their opener 6-4 to Florida and lacked cohesion with new players throughout the lineup. The Panthers have been a tough matchup for Boston for over two years. Boston plays their home opener Thursday and holds a 364–282–103–12 over the Canadiens all-time in the regular season. Defenseman Mason Lohrei is scratched after a -3 effort in the opener.

Montreal – Caufield scored the first goal of the season for Montreal while wearing number 13 as a tribute to the late Johnny Gaudreau. Nicholas Suzuki was among the top players on offense for Montreal last season, collecting 77 points. He recorded 33 goals and 44 assists in 82 games.

Boston Jeremy Swayman makes his season debut after signing an 8-year, $66 million contract. The 25-year-old goaltender is the number-one netminder for Boston after splitting time with Linus Ullmark for much of his career.
