Opinion: Penguins Rumors Are Out of Control

The offseason is still in its boring era, and rumors are running rapidly around Twitter(X) and other places about several players possibly joining the Penguins this offseason. These rumors are getting to a point of absurdity, leading to me writing this piece.

A lot of these rumors are NOT TRUE

THEY ARE FAKE

FALSE NEWS

Anyway, let’s talk about the two popular rumors going around.

The first one is Tomas Tatar

Elliotte Friedman said that the Pens COULD (keyword here) be on the hunt for Tatar. He had a 20-goal season last year and could be a decent replacement for Guentzel while he is out. He is only 32 and a solid winger. But, following Dubas’ post-Karlsson deal presser, the likelihood of Tatar coming is looking very unlikely. Guentzel is expected to be reevaluated in 12 weeks, and Dubas projects Jake to only miss about five games of the season. He could miss more, but it’s not like he will be out for a long time, like people seem to think.

Another reason why this won’t work. The magical SALARY CAP. Yeah, the Pens only got about just over $220 thousand left in the salary cap, and Guentzel won’t be out long enough to be put on LTIR. So without making another trade, there is no way Tatar can even sign with the Pens on league minimum.

So once again, even if Tomas Tatar does want to come to Pittsburgh, he more than likely won’t be able to anyway.

Next up, I’ve seen this on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter(X), and I found it laughable that people were finding this tweet below to be real news.

Just to be clear, he was not. @PenguinsJesus is a meme/fan account that has been a staple in the Pittsburgh sports world for a while, hence why he has so many followers.

The next time we see Jagr in a Pens jersey is during his jersey retirement ceremony, whenever that is.

Anyway, now that I’ve ranted/let my frustration out a bit, carry on and have a nice rest of your offseason, and don’t fall for any more bogus rumors.
