CEDAR PARK, Texas. – Friday night, the Texas Stars defeated the visiting Rockford IceHogs 6-3 thanks to a four-goal third period and goals from six different skaters.

After a scoreless first period that saw the Stars outshoot the IceHogs 11-6, it would be Rockford that would get on the board first when Andreas Athanasiou collected a rebound at the top of the crease and slammed it past a sprawling Remi Poirier, giving the IceHogs a 1-0 lead. Chase Wheatcroft tied the game with a rebound goal of his own when he put a wrist shot past Drew Commesso from the slot. Curtis McKenzie gave the Stars their first lead of the game when he deflected a pass from Antonio Stranges past Commesso giving the Stars a 2-1 lead. Cole Guttman tied the game just over two minutes later when he deflected a backdoor pass from Brandon Baddock past Poirier, making the score 2-2 into the second intermission.

Matej Blümel regained the Stars lead early in the third period when, on the power-play he buried a one-timer pass from Stranges past the diving glove hand of Commesso. Just like in the second period, the lead would not last long as Guttman scored his second goal of the night, with a wrist shot from the high slot that beat Poirier, high blocker side. Arttu Hyry scored the game-winning goal 33 seconds later with a sharp angle wrist shot from the bottom of the right wing circle that beat Commesso five-hole giving the Stars a 4-3 lead. Kyle Capobianco added to the lead with a wrist shot from the left wing face off circle and Kole Lind capped off the night with an empty-net goal that secured the victory for the Stars.
