The Detroit Red Wings are currently on a five-game winning streak after last night’s 3-2 overtime win over the Chicago Blackhawks. Their AHL affiliate the Grand Rapids Griffins were on a 13-game point streak entering this weekend as well as also being on a two-game winning streak. On Saturday they took on the Dallas Stars AHL affiliate the Texas Stars and on Sunday they faced off with the best team in the Western Conference the Milwaukee Admirals who are the AHL affiliate of the Nashville Predators. So, the question is after those two games did the streak live on, or was it snapped?

Saturday: Grand Rapids Griffins vs. Texas Stars

On Saturday the Stars jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a goal from Christian Kyrou, it was his fifth of the season. That goal for Texas would be the only goal they would score as after the first 20 minutes it was all Griffins. Jonatan Berggren and Elmer Soderblom each added goals in the second period to make it 2-1; it was Berggren’s 17th of the year and his ninth goal over this hot streak, and Soderblom’s seventh of the year. In the third period Simon Edvinsson and Dominik Shine each added goals to make it 4-1 which would be the final; it was both Edvinsson’s and Shine’s seventh of the year. Michael Hutchinson got the start in net and stopped 22 of the 23 Stars shots he faced to pick up his 12th win of the year and his fourth in the recent streak.

Sunday: Grand Rapids Griffins vs. Milwaukee Admirals

The Griffins now with a streak at 14 games with a point faced off with an Admirals team that had a streak of their own as they had won 19 straight games entering this matchup. The Griffins got on the board first in the first period when Cross Hanas scored his fifth of the year. The second period contained all the action with five goals being scored. Carter Mazur scored his 12th of the year to make it 2-0 Griffins, then Marco Kasper would score his eighth of the year to make it 3-0. Finally, Zach Aston-Reese added his eighth of the year to make it 4-0. The Admirals would answer with two of their own as Liam Foudy scored his eighth and Cody Hodgson scored his third to make it 4-2 heading into the final 20 minutes and one streak about to be potentially snapped. In the third period, Sebastian Cossa stood on his head as he stopped all 14 shots by the Admirals to secure the 4-2 win, he finished stopping 37 of the 39 shots he faced and improved to 12-7-5 on the year and 6-0-2 over the point streak.
