A report earlier today, on June 7th, 2023, from notable NHL insider Pierre LeBrun revealed that Pierre-Luc Dubois would not sign a contract extension with the Winnipeg Jets.
This is not a terribly shocking report, as it has been reported since Pierre-Luc Dubois’ arrival to Winnipeg that he wanted to be a Montreal Canadien. This will be the second time Dubois has quit on an NHL team, and it will not give him a good reputation going forward.
Pierre-Luc Dubois, who posted a career-high in assists and points, and tied his career high in goals, could be a valuable power forward for any team. In Dubois’ 73-game stint during his 2022-23 campaign with the Winnipeg Jets, he posted 27 goals and 36 assists for 63 points.
It is uncertain whether Dubois’ wish to be a Montreal Canadien is granted, but it is highly likely that Winnipeg Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff trades Dubois for a boatload return. While the situation continues to develop, one thing can be certain, Kevin Cheveldayoff is not afraid to let Pierre-Luc Dubois sit for an entire season. The same happened to 2016 fourth overall pick Jesse Puljujarvi, this wouldn’t be a great look on Dubois if he starts a trend for his draft class.
As Pierre-Luc Dubois and his saga in Winnipeg unfolds, we will continue to provide more updates.
