
The trade deadline is just under 51 hours away and the Florida Panthers have been active. The other day they traded away their backup goalie Spencer Knights to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Seth Jones. To replace him behind Sergei Bobrovsky today they acquired Vitek Vanecek from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for forward Patrick Giles. The Sharks will now have a goalie tandem of Alexandar Georgiev and Yaroslav Askarov.

Vitek Vanecek
Vanecek is in his fifth season. The Washington Capitals drafted him with the 39th overall pick in the 2014 draft. In 181 games he is 94-52-20 with a 2.82 goals-against average, a .903 save percentage, and nine shutouts. He spent his first two seasons with the Capitals going 41-22-10. Vanecek posted a .908 save percentage, a 2.68 goals-against average, and six shutouts. He then spent two seasons with the New Jersey Devils. He went 50-20-7 with a 2.73 goals-against average, a .903 save percentage, and three shutouts. This season with the Sharks in 18 games he is 3-10-3 with a .882 save percentage and a 3.88 goals-against average.
Patrick Giles
Giles made his debut this season. In nine games, he failed to record a point and is a minus-one. He’s spent the last four seasons with the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL, playing in 187 games, recording 44 points on 21 goals and 23 assists, and being a plus-five. This season in Charlotte, in 39 games, he has seven points on five goals and two assists and is a plus-three.
