The Macon Mayhem announced that goalie Brody Claeys has re-signed with the team for the 2024-25 season.
Claeys, hailing from Dauphin, Manitoba, spent two valuable years honing his skills at the University of Alaska-Anchorage, competing at the NCAA Division I level before turning pro. During his his collegiate career, he appeared in 16 games and recorded a goals-against average of 2.64, along with a save percentage of 0.913. This foundation set the stage for his success as he traditional to professional hockey, showcasing the potential that has now followed him into the ranks of the Mayhem.
Claeys is set to be return to the Mayhem after previously playing five games with the team last season. During his time with the Mayhem, he demonstrated his talent between the pipes by achieving a record of 2 wins, 2 losses, and 1 overtime loss. He had a .938 SV% and a goals-against average of 2.55, which included a standout moment where he secured a shutout. Prior to his time in Macon, Claeys spent the earlier pat of the 2023-24 season with the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs where he held a .873 SV% with a GAA of 3.54 before being placed on waivers by the team in late January. During the 2022-2023 campaign with the Dawgs, Claeys posted a .883 save percentage and a 3.35 goals against average in his 11 appearances with the team.
Throughout his four seasons as a professional hockey player, Claeys has splayed for a diverse range of teams, having suited up for five different franchises in the SPHL (Birmingham Bulls, Fayetteville Marksmen, Knoxville Ice Bears, Macon Mayhem, Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs) and eight franchises in the ECHL. He has also had the opportunity to be called up to the AHL, where he played for the Utica Comets.
Claeys will join teammates Hugh Anderson, Brandon Picard, Noah Robinson, Josh Boyko, Michael McChesney, Jarret Kup, Tao Ishizuka, A.J. Ryan, Jake Goldowski, Ben Brockway, Matteo Ybarra, and Brad Jenion as the Mayhem kick off their season at the Macon Coliseum on October 19th, facing off against the Birmingham Bulls at home.
