The Macon Mayhem have announced the signing of forward Alex Cohen to their roster. Originating from Newton, Massachusetts, Cohen has primarily competed in the SPHL this season. In August 2023, Cohen entered into an amateur tryout agreement with the Atlanta Gladiators and also participated in the 2023-2024 Atlanta Gladiators Training Camp.
Up to that point, Cohen had played in 19 games across three SPHL teams. During his time with the Evansville Thunderbolts, he appeared in 16 games and achieved a total of 10 points, which included five goals and five assists. This past season, he played in 38 games with the Macon Mayhem, amassing 15 points from three goals and 12 assists. A highlight of his performance occurred on January 15th against the Quad City Storm, where Cohen tallied three assists. He also participated in 13 games total with the Gladiators during the season.
He made his professional debut in the 2021-22 season with the Birmingham Bulls, and had brief tenures with the Evansville Thunderbolts and Quad City Storm before joining the Mayhem. Prior to his professional career, however, Cohen spent three seasons at NCAA Division I Union College, participating in 15 games. He earned a spot on the ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons.
Cohen will join teammates Brody Claeys, Hugh Anderson, Brandon Picard, Noah Robinson, Josh Boyko, Michael McChesney, Jarret Kup, Tao Ishizuka, A.J. Ryan, Jake Goldowski, Ben Brockway, Matteo Ybarra, and Brad Jenion as the Mayhem kick off their season at the Macon Coliseum on October 19th, facing off against the Birmingham Bulls at home.
