Takeaways From Detroit Red Wings Win Over Flames

Red Wings Takeaways from win over Flames

The Detroit Red Wings returned home to start a home stand, and they took on the Calgary Flames. The Red Wings picked up their fifth straight win as they beat the Flames 6-2.

Production From Everywhere

The Red Wings, for this third time in their six games, scored six goals, and for the second consecutive game, the Red Wings got production from everywhere as Alex DeBrincat continued his hot start with a hat trick, scoring his sixth, seventh, and eighth goals of the season; his eight lead the league. Joe Veleno got the second goal and his third in the last two days, as he seems like he’s primed to have a breakout year in his fifth season. Dylan Larkin added another one as he and DeBrincat combined for 23 points in the first six games; that combo will be a lot of fun to watch this season. Jake Walman also scored as he sniped one home for his first of the year.

Holl Makes A Statement

One question entering the season was the seven-defenseman situation and who would be the odd man out. Many thought it would be Justin Holl, but he would be a solid depth piece. Holl didn’t play in Wednesday’s win over the Pittsburgh Penguins, but he’s played in every other game. Today, he recorded his first point as a Red Wing as he had an assist on the first two goals the Red Wings scored, and he added a third assist on DeBrincat’s hat trick goal in the third.

Reimer A Solid Backup

Reimer made his second start since joining the Red Wings, and he once again looked solid between the pipes, and it’s nice to see the Red Wings have a reliable backup. He allowed his first goal as a member of the Red Wings after 87 minutes and 47 seconds of his Detroit tenure. So far this season, he is now 2-0-0, stopping 52 of 54, and today, he stopped 29 of the 31 shots he saw.

Next Up:

The Detroit Red Wings continue their homestand, taking on the Seattle Kraken on Tuesday with puck drop set for 8:15 PM. This will also be part of the new NHL Frozen Frenzy on ESPN, and you can follow each game as all 32 teams play.
