Sebastion Aho Close to Signing Contract Extension With Carolina Hurricanes

There have been rumblings from the Carolina Hurricanes on a contract extension with forward Sebastian Aho. The deal has an unknown average annual value but is expected to be an eight-year contract extension.

The second-round pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft has been a significant asset for the Carolina Hurricanes roster. Aho has posted consistent point totals of close to one point per game ever since he joined the Carolina Hurricanes. In Aho’s 520 career games played, he’s scored 218 goals, 250 assists, and 468 points.

Many can remember when the Montreal Canadiens tendered an offer sheet to Sebastian Aho in the 2019 NHL Offseason. This offer sheet was five years in length and worth $8,460,250 million annually. Sebastian Aho signed this offer sheet from former Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin. This offer sheet was matched by Carolina Hurricanes general manager Don Waddell, and it walked Sebastian Aho to potentially becoming an unrestricted free agent.

Ever since Aho has stayed with the Carolina Hurricanes, he has been a significant impact on the roster and performed up to the standards of his contract. The Carolina Hurricanes would hope to give Aho a slight pay bump, though with the salary cap rising significantly in the next few years, Aho may demand something more than a slight pay bump.

In Sebastian Aho’s 2022-23 season, he posted 36 goals and 31 assists for 67 points in 75 games. Aho would also post five goals and seven assists for 12 points in 15 playoff games.
