Boston Bruins defenseman Hampus Lindholm blocked a shot during a November 12 against the St. Louis Blues and left that game in the first period and has not returned after suffering a small fracture in his leg.
Three days ago, Bruins Interim Head Coach Joe Sacco gave an update on Lindholm’s progress. “He’s not skating yet, but he is getting closer to being on the ice,” Sacco told the media before Thursday’s 2-1 loss to the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. “I don’t have an exact time for when he’s going to be hitting the ice, but he’s getting closer to returning to the ice.”
That time has been confirmed as the blue liner skated for the first time on Tuesday morning at TD Garden. The Bruins have missed Lindholm who was averaging nearly 21 minutes of ice time per game paired with Brandon Carlo. Lindholm was also about to assume a role on the struggling power play when the injury occurred. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound defenseman registered three goals and four assists in the 17 games before his injury.
In his absence, the Bruins have not had much offensive production from the back end. Currently, the Bruins are on a streak of 15 games without a goal from the defensive core. This is the third-longest streak in team history and four games shy of the longest ever. There is still no further update concerning a possible return for Lindholm, but Tuesday’s skate is a good sign.
