Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced today, June 30, that they have issued qualifying offers to Jeremy Swayman, Michael Callahan, Marc McLaughlin, and Alec Regula. This announcement has no surprises, as the Bruins and Swayman are working toward a long-term extension that will make Swayman the number-one goaltender in Boston. The Bruins’ defensive depth in their minor league system isn’t great (keeping Callahan and Regula was a no-brainer). The defensemen will see a lot of minutes in Providence and could potentially get into the lineup in Boston if there are injuries. McLaughlin has shown some promise in his limited time in Boston and could push for a bottom-six spot in training camp if the Bruins are trying to fill the back half of their roster with lower-cost alternatives.

The Bruins did not submit qualifying offers to Jesper Boqvist, Joey Abate, or Curtis Hall. Boqvist’s fate on the Bruins roster was sealed when the Bruins acquired Mark Kastelic in the Linus Ullmark trade with the Ottawa Senators. Kastelic can do everything Boqvist can do while adding some physicality and toughness, traits the Bruins want in their bottom six players. Joey Abate has signed a minor league contract with the Providence Bruins to remain with the club for the 2024-25 season. Curtis Hall was a 4th round pick for the Bruins in 2018 and has bounced around in the AHL and ECHL while never living up to his potential. Hall has never scored more than two goals in an AHL season. Hall’s lack of production, combined with new players being signed by the organization, led to his days in the Bruins system coming to an end.
