The Winter Classic is upon us, with five days remaining till the special event begins on Monday, January 2nd, 2023.

This year’s matchup will feature the Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins as Boston plays host to the Pens at Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox. Thanks to the recent news that emerged today, some Boston sports legends will be making their return as they will be on hand to help celebrate the occasion.

According to Conor Ryan of The Boston Sports Journal, some very special guests will be participating in the ceremonial puck drop.

”For the 2023 Winter Classic, Bobby Orr will be joined by Zdeno Chara, Johnny Bucyk, Jason Varitek and Tim Wakefield for the ceremonial puck drop.”

All five of these Boston legends know what it means to represent this great city as they all had long careers and won championships, whether it be a Stanley Cup or a World Series. Each one of these players embodied what it meant to be a Boston Bruin or a Boston Red Sox, as they were leaders and the heart and soul of their teams.

For those that will be in attendance at Fenway Park for that 2 PM, EST puck drop will have a memory they will never forget as these five kick off the 2022-23 NHL Winter Classic.
