As the 2024-25 season approaches, the Boston Bruins have created competition for a few roster spots. Second-line right-wing and fourth-line forwards are needed, and several players will compete to crack the lineup on opening night. Training camp will also showcase several prospects in the Bruins’ system as the organization looks to replenish a recently depleted prospect pool. The Bruins Benders Podcast has ranked the top 30 Bruins’ prospects, and here is the countdown, beginning with the bottom ten rated from 20 to 16.
20 – Philip Svedeback – Goaltender – Providence College – (NCAA)
Svedeback was a fourth-round draft pick in 2021 by Boston and has played two seasons at Providence College. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound netminder saw his production slip slightly last season as he registered a 2.32 goal against average and a .900 save percentage. The 22-year-old enters his junior season and is a candidate to sign with Boston at the conclusion of the 2024-25 season.
19 – Jonathan Myrenberg – Defenseman – Linkoping (Swedish League)
Myrenberg was a fifth-round pick in the 2021 draft and was part of the trade that included Jack Studnicka moving on to Vancouver. Myrenberg and goaltender Michael DiPietro were acquired in the deal. The 21-year-old right-shot defender has progressed into a decent prospect. At 6-foot-3, 196 pounds, Myrenberg is a defensive blue liner who chipped in 11 points in 50 games last season. Myrenberg enters his second season with Linkoping in the Swedish Hockey League for the 2024-25 campaign.
18 – Brett Harrison – Forward – Providence Bruins (AHL)
Harrison was a third-round draft pick in the 2021 draft. The 21-year-old’s stock has dropped some but a late-season surge created some promise. Harrison will try to improve on last season, when he registered five goals and nine assists. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound forward has some offensive ability, including an NHL release on a heavy shot. Consistency should be Harrison’s focus as he tries to make a jump to the next level.
17 – John Farinacci – Forward – Providence Bruins (AHL)
Farinacci was signed as a free agent after not inking an NHL deal with the Arizona Coyotes, who drafted the former Harvard star in the third round in 2019. Last season, the 5-foot-11, 185-pound center scored 12 goals with 26 assists with Providence and will compete for a bottom-six spot with the Bruins in training camp.
16 – Michael DiPietro – Goaltender – Providence Bruins (AHL)
DiPietro has made great strides since being acquired with Myrenberg from Vancouver. At times last season, the 25-year-old netminder outplayed teammate Brandon Bussi and posted a 2.51 goals against average and a .918 save percentage with Providence. Look for DiPietro to split time again with Bussi after signing a one-year contract to remain with the Bruins organization.
The Bruins have dipped into the college free-agent pool recently as they have been without high-level draft picks. There are a few intriguing players towards the bottom of their prospect group as the 2024-25 hockey season begins. Prospects 11-15 article is coming soon!
