The Allen Americans came into the 2022-23 season looking for an even better run than they had in the 2021-22 season. The Americans made it to the playoffs in the 2021-22 season but were eliminated by the Rapid City Rush in five games in the first round.

Top Performers

The Americans had a slow start to their season and were not looking very promising. But as the season continued, the chemistry between the players grew. Hank Crone led the Allen Americans in goals with 49 and the team in points with 105. Crone also led the league in goals and points; he was also named the ECHL MVP and Rookie Of The Year. Jack Combs led the team in assists with 59 and was second in the league for overall points with 95. Colton Hargrove was second in the league for goals with 39. Mikael Robidoux led the Americans in penalty minutes with 190, and Kris Myllari led the team in plus/minus with +10.

Ironmen

The Allen Americans had two players who played in all 72 regular season games, both defensemen. Through all 72 games, Kris Myllari had eight goals and 23 assists for 31 points. He had 44 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of +10. Ryan Gagnon had four goals and five assists for nine points through 72 games. He had 80 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of -30. The Americans also had ten players who played in all 11 playoff games, including Myllari and Gagnon.

Final Regular Season Record and Standings

After a rough start to the season, the Americans were able to finish strong. They ended the regular season with a record of 37-32-2-1 for 77 points and finished second in the Mountain Division, fifth in the Western Conference, and 13th in the league overall.

Playoffs

While the Americans didn’t get as far in the playoffs as they hoped, they did make it further than they did in the 2021-22 season. The Americans eliminated the Kansas City Mavericks in Game Six in the first round, winning the series 4-2. Then in the second round, the Americans faced the Idaho Steelheads, where they were eliminated in Game Five, losing the series 4-1. In the playoffs, Colton Hargrove led the Americans in goals with six and the team in points with nine. Hank Crone led the team in assists with seven. Mikael Robidoux led the team in penalty minutes with 59, and Zach Massicotte led the team in plus/minus with +2.

What is Next?

While the Americans did not meet the end goal of winning the Kelly Cup, they do have a lot to build off for next season. If the Americans bring back a good core group of guys and a few younger guys, they should be good to go. The Americans will open the 2023-24 season on the road in Idaho to face off against the Idaho Steelheads on October 20 and 21. They will have their home opener against the Atlanta Gladiators on October 28 and 29.
