ECHL Game Recap: Adirondack Thunder vs Trois-Rivieres Lions | 02/21/2025

Trois-Rivieres Lions/ECHL

The Adirondack Thunder would head to Trois-Rivieres for the first of three games on the weekend and the fifth of seven straight games against the Lions. Coming into tonight, the Thunder have lost the last 11 games against the Lions this season and were looking to snap a seven-game losing streak. One of the things the Thunder have been doing better of late is getting off to a solid start, as they held the Lions to just two shots in the opening 12 minutes. Kishaun Gervias tried to get the Thunder fired up as he dropped the gloves against Wyatt McLeod at the 13:11 mark of the period. Adirondack was hoping for a scoreless opening frame, but the Lions would get a three-on-one, and Kirby Proctor would put home his second of the year with less than two minutes to go in the period as the Lions took a 1-0 lead into the locker room.

Unlike in the opening period, it wouldn’t take the Lions long to get on the board in the second as Xavier Cormier scored from the top of the circle to double the lead at 2:02. The Lions would get Anthony Beauregard back in the lineup for the first time since February 12th. In his first game back, he would find the back of the net on the PP for his 19th goal of the season, as the Quebec native has a three-game point streak. Jakov Novak would record his 100th point as a member of the Trois-Rivieres Lions. Despite finishing the period, that goal would be enough for Adirondack Thunder Head Coach Pete MacArthur to pull Colby Muise, for Muise, this is the second straight start in which he’s gotten the hook.

The Adirondack Thunder would get a sign of life early in the third as Saava Smirnov fed Kevin O’Neil for his team-leading 16th goal of the season less than a minute into the third. Adirondack would get two PP opportunities in the third with a chance to cut the lead in half, but the struggles continued on the PP. Trois-Rivieres would put the nail in the coffin at the 14:37 mark of the third as Tyler Hylland picked up his nine of the season and sixth against the Adirondack Thunder. Luke Cavallin made 26 saves for his 12th win of the season. On the other end of the ice, Tyler Brennan, who will likely get the start tomorrow, looked solid, stopping 16 of the 17 shots he faced. The Lions and Thunder will wrap up the series with games on Saturday and Sunday at 3 pm.
