ECHL: Garin Bjorklund Named ECHL Goaltender of the Week (February 17th-23rd)

The ECHL has announced that South Carolina Stingrays goaltender Garin Bjorklund has been named the ECHL goaltender of the week for February 17th-23rd. In Bjorklund’s two appearances last week, he went 2-0-0 with a shutout, a .50 goals against average, and a .980 save percentage. The 22-year-old goaltender made 25 saves in a 5-1 win over the Greenville Swamp Rabbits and 23 in a shutout win over the Worcester Railers. Bjorklund becomes the second goalie from the Stingrays to be named Goaltender of the Week after Seth Eisele won the award back in January.

The 2020 6th round draft pick of the Washington Capitals has been exceptional for the Stingrays this season, going 14-3-3 in his 21 appearances with a 2.00 GAA, which ranks second in the ECHL, and a .928 save percentage, which ranks fourth in the ECHL. Fans in both Washington and South Carolina should be excited about what Bjorklund brings to the table as he has gone 29-24-4 in his 49 career ECHL games with the Stingrays, posting two shutouts, a 2.76 GAA, and a .901 save percentage. Prior to his 2022 ECHL debut, the 22-year-old Calgary, Alberta native played in the Western Hockey League for the Medicine Hat Tigers. While playing for the Tigers, Bjorklund appeared in 96 games where he went 40-48-4, posting three shutouts, a 3.50 GAA, and a .892 save percentage. The South Carolina Stingrays are currently sitting third in the Eastern Conference standings largely due to the stellar play of Bjorklund. Fans in Charleston will certainly hope he continues his great run as the season progresses.
