This afternoon, August 28th, the Orlando Solar Bears let fans know they will be announcing three signings this week. Today, Orlando announced the signing of forward D-Jay Jerome and defenseman Jake Stevens.

From Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, forward D-Jay Jerome is 23 years old,  6 foot 3, and 209 pounds. Jerome will be playing his third season in the ECHL. In his first year in the league, Jerome played 30 games with the Allen Americans, and last year, he played 14 games for the Trois-Rivières Lions, scoring eight points (3g-5a).

Jerome played in the WHL for four seasons between the Red Deer Rebels, Prince Albert Raiders, Victoria Royals, Lethbridge Hurricanes, and the Swift Current Broncos. Between the different WHL teams, Jerome played 233 games, scoring 49 goals and 56 assists.

Coming to us from Naperville, Illinois, is defenseman Jake Stevens. This will be Stevens first full season playing in the ECHL. During the 2021-22 season, Stevens played 11 games for the ECHL’s Iowa Heartlanders after the end of his collegiate career at Long Island University. Prior to Long Island University, Stevens played NCAA hockey at St. Lawrence University for four seasons, where he skated 115 games. During his 2020-21 year at St. Lawrence University, the team defeated Quinnipiac 3-2 in an OT loss to win the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship.

Solar Bears fans can look forward to at least one more signing this week. With all of the new signings, I’m curious if we will see one of our former players make a return with the third announcement later this week.
