ECHL: Orlando Solar Bears Game 1 Recap

Period 1

The Everblades started us off with the first goal at the start of the first period. Shortly after, we saw a Solar Bears goal, the first of the season, scored by number 21, Jaydon Dureau. Dureau played 36 games with Orlando during the 2022-23 season and 13 with the AHL’s Syracuse Crunch. Dureau appeared in 29 games last season for the Solar Bears, scoring five goals and 12 assists. Dureau skated in 13 AHL games for the Crunch during the 2022-23 season, earning one goal and one assist. 

Period 2

We saw goals scored by number 61, Luke Boka, and seconds later by Carpenter for the Florida Everblades at 14:41 of the second period. 

The Orlando Solar Bears kept the lead throughout the second period, holding a 3-2 lead. A stand out from period two was number 11, Steve Jandric. Jandric was with the ECHL’s Worcester Railers during the 2022-23 season for 20 games, where he earned 19 points. It is game one, and Jandric is already showing fans that he has what it takes to help make the Solar Bears a playoff contender. 

Period 3 + OT

The first goal of the third period came at 12:24 and was scored by Kamerin Nault of the Florida Everblades to make the score tied 3-3. With a minute remaining, the score remained tied. 

At the end of regulation, the score remained tied and went to a 3 on 3 sudden death overtime where we saw no score by either team. The game ended with a shootout where the Florida Everblades won in a seven-round shootout, ending in a 4-3 victory for the Solar Bears. 

The next Orlando Solar Bears Game will be next Thursday, October 26th, against the Florida Everblades, who will be raising their Kelly Cup Banner for the second consecutive season in a row.
