ECHL: Savannah Ghost Pirates Weekend Recap

The Ghost Pirates hit the road for the weekend facing the Jacksonville Icemen and the Orlando Solar Bears. Let’s talk about how they fared in both matchups:

Saturday: Jacksonville Icemen-

Saturday was not the Ghost Pirates night by any means. At 11:11 of the first period, Icemen Forward, Christopher Brown, shoots one past Evan Cormier off of the assist of Davis Koch and Noah Laaouan. This was the only goal scored between both teams in the opening frame.

Going into the middle frame, Ghost Pirates Ross Armour scores the lone goal for Savannah on the night on a power play and nets one past Jacksonville netminder Matt Vernon at 3:16, when Icemen Forward Connor Russell headed to the penalty box for a hooking minor. Captain Logan Drevitch and Reece Vitelli earn the helpers on this goal. Jacksonville answers back to the Ghost Pirates at 12:03 of the second period when Liam Coughlin nets one past Cormier off of the assist of Davis. Davis earned his second point of the night on Coughlin’s goal.

Going into the final frame, at 18:27, Zach Jordan nets one on an empty net for Savannah. Garret Van Wyhe earns the lone assist. At 19:29, Van Wyhe takes advantage of the empty net and snaps one in off of the assist of Coughlin and Chase Lang.

Sunday: Orlando Solar Bears-

Ghost Pirates answered back during another battle with the Orlando Solar Bears on Sunday Afternoon. At 12:35 of the opening frame Graham McPhee earned the first goal of the afternoon off of the assist of Drevitch. This was the lone goal of the period for either team.

Heading into the middle frame, Orlando tied the game at 8:19 when Spencer Kersten netted one past Keith Kinkaid. Chris Harpur and Darik Angeli earned the helpers on Kersten’s second goal of the season. Ghost Pirates Drevitch comes in at 11:04 off of the assist of Liam Walsh and Evan Nause. At 19:43 of the middle frame, Orlando answered the bell on a power play when Jack Adams netted one past Kinkaid off of the assist of Aaron Luchuk and Avery Winslow . At 18:52, Ghost Pirates Forward Devon Paliani was sent to the penalty box for an Instigating Minor (2 minutes) and a Fighting Major (5 minutes).

Savannah having a win at the grasp of their fingertips, nets one in past Solar Bears netminder Ryan Fanti at 10:27. Riley Hughes earned the game winning goal off of the assists of Nicholas Zabaneh and Armour.

Ghost Pirates head home this week and play a game against Adirondack Thunder on Thursday evening and Greenville Swamp Rabbits Saturday evening. Both games take place at Enmarket Arena at 7:00 pm.
